Welkom op de website van de Vereniging voor Dansonderzoek, waar u alles over de vereniging en haar activiteiten vindt. Momenteel wordt er naar een tweetalige website toegewerkt, waardoor u bepaalde onderdelen van de site zowel al in het Nedelands als Engels vindt. De VDO streeft ernaar zoveel als mogelijk in het Engels aan te bieden.

Currently, the VDO is working towards a bilingual website.  Hence, some parts of the website can already be read in English as well as Dutch. The VDO  aspires to present the website as much as possible in English.

De Vereniging voor Dansonderzoek (VDO) werd in 1990 opgericht om Nederlands onderzoek op het gebied van de dans, zowel wetenschappelijk als toegepast, te stimuleren. Dansonderzoek wordt door de VDO zeer breed opgevat. Het is niet gebonden aan een bepaalde discipline en omvat zowel historisch en sociologisch onderzoek als onderzoek vanuit de theater-, bewegings- en bestuurswetenschappen. Ook onderzoek dat buiten een universitaire context wordt verricht valt binnen het interessegebied van de VDO.

De belangrijkste doelstellingen van de VDO zijn gedachtenuitwisseling, verspreiding van onderzoeksresultaten en discussie. Om ervoor te zorgen dat Nederlandse dansonderzoekers met elkaar in contact kunnen komen en dat hun werk onder de aandacht wordt gebracht, houdt de VDO zich bezig met:
- uitgave van een tweejaarlijkse bundel, Danswetenschap in Nederland, met artikelen over dansonderzoek in het Nederlands taalgebied;
- organisatie van studie(mid)dagen;
- verzending van aankondigingen van nationale en internationale activiteiten per email;
- onderhoud van de VDO website, die dient als opslagplaats voor verslagen en artikelen over dansonderzoek in Nederland.

De VDO wil een ontmoetingsplek en discussieplatform zijn voor iedereen die zich bezighoudt met dansonderzoek, binnen en buiten de wetenschap, actief en als belangstellende. Voor hen staat het lidmaatschap van de VDO open.

The Dutch Society for Dance Research (VDO: Vereniging voor Dans Onderzoek) was established in 1990 to stimulate Dutch research, pure as well as applied, in the field of dance. It was an initiative of several individuals (dance lovers and researchers) who wanted to create a forum for dance research in The Netherlands. The Society has a broad  definition of dance research. It is not linked to any specific academic discipline andincludeshistorical and sociological research as well as research  done in theatre studies, , movement sciences,  and cultural studies  that has ‘dance’ as its main subject. Both academic and applied research projects are of interest to the VDO.

The most important objectives of the VDO are the exchange of ideas, the dissemination of research results, and discussion. The VDO aims to facilitate contact between Dutch   dance scholars  and to call attention to their work by presenting and discussing the findings of their research. This is done by the:
- publication of a collection of articles that present the work of Dutch and Flemish dance scholars. Dance Research in the Netherlands is published every two years;
- organization of a symposium once a year;
- digital newsletter in which national as well as international activities are announced;
- maintenance of VDO website, which serves as an archive of  reports and articles concerning dance research in the Nethelands.

The VDO wants to be a forum for everybody who is involved in dance research, both in and outside the university, actively or as interested observer Membership is open to everyone.
